We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) and the Bell 360 Invictus Future Attack, part of the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless, and Bell's High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next-generation stop-fold tilt-rotor.
Tooling Specialist - FLRAA Build Team
The Tooling Specialist is responsible for leading the development, fabrication, and lifecycle management of Special Tooling (jigs, dies, fixtures, molds, patterns, gauges, etc..) to support the FLRAA Program. Guiding the successful completion of major projects in support of strategic priorities and complex technical objectives, the Tooling Specialist, applies advanced manufacturing technical principles, theories, and concepts to the development of innovative manufacturing technology on existing or advanced designs, concepts, processes, systems, and tools.
What you’ll be doing as a Tooling Specialist– FLRAA Build Team
- Oversee design and fabrication of Special Tooling (ST) for use at a Bell Facility to manufacture components, component assemblies, or aircraft assembly.
- Tooling management for Special Tooling (ST) related to subcontracted components and component assemblies.
- Generate system demand enabling tool purchase, write the statements of work defining requirements for tooling, and coordinate between tool supplier(s) and Bell.
- Ensure compliance with the FLRAA contract and prepare customer delivery requirements documentation for on-time delivery.
- Manages the Earned Value Management (EVM) Work Package Leader (WPL) role. Planning and monitoring cost-and-schedule execution, variance reporting, and status reporting.
- Implement effective Risk, Issue, and Opportunity (RIO) management, identifying impacts, informing decisions on structure/content, and developing mitigation strategies/plans.
- Support the integration and implementation of new Tooling methods, procedures, and processes are implemented into the FLRAA tooling strategy and program operating instructions (POIs).
- Drive execution of the FLRAA tooling strategy to reduce lead time, and defects and improve First Pass Yield in support of the Program Execution Plan.
- Collaborate with internal and industry-known Technical Subject Matter Experts (Technical Fellows/Technical Competency Leads), and Manufacturing Centers of Excellence to ensure the alignment of the FLRAA tooling strategy.
- Coordinate with the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) to DD-250 Special Tooling (ST).
Skills You Bring To this Role
- Proven self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with excellent foresight / problem-solving skills and experience coordinating with multi-discipline teams (engineering, manufacturing, tooling, quality, procurement, suppliers, etc.).
- Familiarity with the requirements of engineering configuration management practices and industry standard engineering data documentation practices.
- Practical knowledge of the following software tools: PowerBi, Primavera (P6), Premier (Bell), CATIA V6, 3DX, SAP, ENOVIA, Experimental and Production MES systems (i.e., CAMS, PEO).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Visio, etc.
- Experience with military-aligned Earned Value Management (EVM) programs, including Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBRs) and EV metrics management and variance reporting.
- Willingness to support Government audit inquiry as a part of a Government Earned Value Management System (EVMS) or Quality audit.
What you need to be successful:
- Extensive related manufacturing and tooling industry experience required
- Minimum 5 years of related experience in project management, aircraft manufacturing, production engineering, development, and tooling, with specific experience in Bell business system processes.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. An additional 5 years of manufacturing and tooling experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
