Job description
As a SMS Engineer you will play an instrumental role in supporting the effective implementation of the safety management elements: hazard identification, safety assurance and safety promotion. Your responsibilities will include comprehensive support to the SMS Manager and collaboration with cross-functional teams. This position requires an existing technical background in safety management system fundamentals, technical aviation knowledge and a high level of personal integrity.
What will your main scope be?
• Support hazard identification, safety assurance and safety promotion processes.
• Collect, record, and thoroughly investigate safety related information collected internally (including failures, malfunctions, defects as well as organizational hazards).
• Manage and keep up to date relevant documentation for safety management system’s record keeping purposes.
• Analyse data to identify root causes, contributing factors, and trends. Provide well-founded recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Prepare and deliver safety related training materials and support internal communication activities.
• Build comprehensive links between objectives, input data and performance indicators while making links to trends analysis.
• Stay up-to date on aviation regulations and standards relevant to safety management system. Ensure adherence to aviation regulations while carrying out investigations.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including airworthiness and design engineers, subject matter experts, and regulatory compliance specialists.
• Clearly communicate investigation findings and recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders as required.
• Generate statistical reports in response to requests from national and international authorities.
• Participate in initiatives, contributing to the continuous improvement of our products and procedures within the aircraft design, production, and maintenance organization.
What do we expect from the candidate?
• Bachelor’s degree in aviation, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven knowledge and understanding of aviation regulations, safety management system requirements, occurrence reporting in civil aviation and just culture principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, process, and analyse data effectively.
• Strong communication skills: excellent spoken and written English is mandatory; knowledge of Italian will be considered as an advantage.
• Presentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• More than 3 years in total and at least 2 years of relevant experience related to aviation safety fundamentals and associated processes.
• Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude toward professional development.
• Ability to approach problem-solving with creativity and a willingness to learn from experienced team members.
• Commitment to conducting work with the highest ethical standards and in a timely manner.
• Genuine interest and passion for contributing to aviation safety and continuous improvement.
• The following will be considered as an advantage: proficiency in PowerBI and MS SharePoint, having a Private Pilot License, ability to speak Italian, and open mindset.
